Our school goals for mathematics at UPPS is to provide our students with an understanding of mathematical ideas, knowledge and skills that they can draw on in their lives. We believe that the teaching of maths at UPPS needs to be purposeful and related to real life contexts. The Victorian Curriculum is broken up into three strands of Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. Students participate in daily mathematics lessons around these three strands. Students will be involved in a whole class lessons, independent activities or teacher focused groups which have a clear learning intention.
Students at UPPS will have individual maths goals that they will work on in the classroom and participate in daily lessons involving a wide range of resources such as concrete materials and models as well as ICT resources. Students are encouraged to share their thinking and problem solving with their peers during lessons.
