Welcome to Upper Plenty Primary School! We are a School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) school. This plays a large part in creating our school culture.
Our school values are the three Rs: respect, resilience and responsibility.
Our School Purpose:
The staff, parents and community of Upper Plenty Primary school are committed to providing a nurturing, friendly environment that inspires respectful, responsible and resilient lifelong learners.
Our School Vision:
Through our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework, we promote a caring community built on our school values. We aim to guide our children to be respectful members of our community by supporting them to be kind, empathetic and fair. We empower our students to be resilient, by fostering their ability to stay positive, and solve problems. We nurture our students to be responsible, by inspiring them to realise the power of their choices in their learning success and their relationships with others. We aim to provide high quality learning experiences for students, to support them to reach their full potential.
School Wide Behaviour Expectations
These are our whole school rules. Our Behaviour Expectations Matrix is a document that sets out the expected behaviours in each area of our school, and how they align with our values of respect, resilience and responsibility. As part of being an SWPBS school, we believe that teaching and praising the expected behaviours is the most effective way to support students to display these behaviours. We unpack the school rules with students during our school start up program. We also select one of the rules to be our weekly focus each week, allowing us the opportunity to revisit and revise these expectations during the year. You can view our Behaviour Expectations Matrix here.
Correcting Errors in Behaviour
Our Response to Behaviour Chart outlines how we categorise inappropriate behaviours as major or minor behaviours, and outline the steps for responding to both. The aim of this is not to punish students, but rather to re-educate students on the appropriate behaviours. This includes discussing the feelings that led to the incident, discussing (and sometimes physically modelling and practising) what to do differently next time to show our school value, and attempting to set things right. You can view our Response to Behaviour Chart here.
Acknowledging Appropriate Behaviour
Students are awarded ‘dojo points’ for displaying our expected behaviours. When students reach certain amounts of points, they receive fun prizes such as free icy poles, having lunch with a friend from another grade, or being a classroom helper in another grade. These prizes have been created with the Student Leadership team. Students strive to reach 200 dojo points to get the coveted title of ‘UPPS Legend’. At this point you get a special morning tea with the principal herself, as well as your picture up on our wall of fame!
We appreciate your support in instilling the values of respect, resilience and responsibility in the home.
