Respectful Relationships

Respectful Relationships

In 2016, Respectful Relationships Education was integrated as a core element of the Victorian Curriculum, spanning from Prep to Year 12. It is now a mandatory program in all government, Catholic, and many independent schools. At Upper Plenty Primary School, Units 7 an 8 of the Respectful Relationships Program is delivered across all year levels, alongside , using age-appropriate teaching and learning activities. These are incorporated into our weekly curriculum.

The Respectful Relationships program helps schools foster and demonstrate respect, positive behaviors, and attitudes. It teaches children how to form healthy relationships, build resilience, and develop confidence. This initiative promotes a culture of respect and equality throughout our community—within classrooms, staffrooms, on the sports fields, and during social events. It positively impacts student academic performance, mental health, classroom behavior, and the relationships between students and teachers.

This Victorian initiative supports school leaders, educators, and communities in modeling respect and equality, while teaching children how to create healthy relationships, resilience, and confidence. By fostering positive behaviors and gender equality throughout the school, and reinforcing these values in the classroom, we can effectively shift attitudes and behaviors.
